CREATION EQUATIONS
George Mason University’s Graphic Design students are given the project of designing, writing and editing a book on a subject of their choice. The aim was to inform readers of the unique connection between Mathematics and Art, and just the beauty of mathematics rather than a subject to be afraid of. The overall inspiration, content and images for the book were taken from my time as both an Applied Mathematics and Graphic Design major, working at George Mason University’s 3D Printing Labs including the Mason Experimental Geometry Lab (MEGL) and the GMU Math MakerLab, being involved in research projects and meeting a community of mathematical artists at both these labs, GMU’s Mathematical Sciences Department and at Mathematics Conferences. The interviewees in the book are all the mathematical artists I have met and gotten the privilege of working alongside during my time as a mathematics major.
BOOK POSTER
The Letters of ‘Creation Equations’ were 3D printed using the Ultimaker 3D Printer at the GMU Math Makerlab. The blue ribbon-like image is a closeup of a mathematical origami piece made by a student in the GMU’s Department of Mathematical Sciences.
